American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics is the full form of AIAAA. The AIAA was built up in 1963 by the mix of two past associations: the American Rocket Society (ARS), set up in 1930 as the American Interplanetary Society (AIS), and the Institute of Aerospace Science (IAS), set up in 1932 as the Aeronautical Science Institute. Paul Johnston was the association’s first official executive. Following a year and a half, Jim Harford surrendered his position.
