AMIE full form is Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers. It is a professional certification given by Institution of Engineers India Limited (IEIL). This is an important degree for students who are unable to pursue regular engineering degree from a Technical University or Engineering College in India. This certification is considered as the equivalent to the degree of engineering including the major streams of engineering like Electronics, Mechanical and Computer Science. Once a student completes this certification, he can opt for the Masters Degree from any recognized university. He can also work in various government or private sector companies in his field of specialization.

The exams of AMIE are held two times in a year in summer and winter or June and December respectively. The date and details of the exam are released in the Technical Journal. The IEIL has divided the exam into two sections; Section A and Section B.

Section A is mandatory for all the candidates. In Section B, the candidate is supposed to choose a specific branch of engineering program. After passing the section A, the candidate can appear for the Section B and if he clears at least 5 papers of Section B, he becomes eligible for the Laboratory experiments.
