Find the time taken by a 500 W heater to raise the temperature of 50 kg of material of specific heat capacity 960 J/kg°C from 18°C to 38°C. Assume that all the heat from the heater is given: to the material.

Power(P) = 500 W = 500 J/sec.

Mass of the material (m) = 50 kg.

Rise in temperature (t) = 38 – 18 = 200C

S.H.C. of the material (s) = 960 J/kg 0C

Quantity of heat required (Q) = mst = 50 x 20 x 960 = 960,00 J.

Time required = 9600/500 = 1920 secs. = 32 min.
